Aims and Principles

PhoneAbility covers all disabilities and age related impairments. While we are UK based and funded, we do not operate solely with a UK remit. We aim to:

  • strengthen links with UK Government and collaborate with appropriate EU and international organisations and individuals;
  • ensure awareness of global developments and seek to influence direction and activity internationally;
  • ensure liaison with, and involvement of, consumer groups, industry, regulators, legislators, administrators and standards bodies in order to seek out, co-ordinate and present well balanced views of user needs and practical solutions;
  • be forward looking, identifying the potential benefits and pitfalls of emerging technologies for older and disabled people in order to influence concepts and early standards;
  • continue to produce public outputs, for example in the form of its website, seminars and publications.

The members of the PhoneAbility Steering Group come from a wide variety of backgrounds and disabilities, including people from industry. They are present as individuals and not as formal representatives of any organisation they may be associated with. This means that any views put forward by PhoneAbility are independent of any other organisation.
